The Story

Softcover | 39.5 x 0.5 x 30 cm | 32 pp

Rocket | 2008

This is a beautifully produced large-format catalogue published to accompany the exhibition Matthias Hoch at Rocket, London in 2008.

Matthias Hoch photographs the backs of buildings, empty plazas and parking garages – anonymous places devoid of people where there is nothing obvious to see or experience. The photographs here reflect Hoch's fascination with contemporary architecture and were all taken in The Netherlands – Rotterdam, Naarden and in particular Almere, one of the youngest Dutch cities.

Armed with a large-format camera and analogue film material, Hoch pursues the path he has mapped out for himself – with curiosity and the instincts of a skilled tracker – exploring the world that surrounds him, identifying its constituent parts and structures. - Thomas Seelig, Land without Horizon, 2005
